Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Pharmacy Residency
Arrowhead Regional Medical Center PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency
Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC), is a 456 bed acute care teaching hospital, located in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility in Colton, California (about 60 miles East of Los Angeles). The hospital is owned and operated by the County of San Bernardino. Pharmacy services are provided under a management contract by Comprehensive Pharmacy Services, Inc. (CPS). The combined resources of ARMC and CPS provide a unique training ground for residents in all aspects of clinical, distributive, and administrative pharmacy. ARMC is the site of several post-graduate training programs, including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurosurgery, Women’s Health, and Psychiatry. Pharmacy residents are an integral part of the ARMC house staff. (Link to learn more about the learning experiences)
About the Program
The PGY-1 residency program is a structured, post-graduate experiential training program that works to develop proficient and professionally committed practitioners. The graduates of this program have been placed in positions of high responsibility, either as clinicians or departmental leaders such as clinical coordinators and directors of pharmacy. As part of the CPS family, graduates have significant opportunities to join departments of pharmacy at over 300 sites nationwide.
In this program, residents will become proficient independent practitioners of pharmaceutical care, taking responsibility for the care of patients with a variety of disease states in a safety net county-owned hospital. They will accomplish this in an interdisciplinary environment. Additionally, the residents will participate in efforts to improve the scope and quality of pharmacy services, and to improve the overall patient experience.
This program has a strong teaching component. ARMC is affiliated with several schools of pharmacy, and the residents have the opportunity to acquire, practice and improve teaching and precepting skills. The PGY-1 program adheres to the seven principles of accreditation established by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and bases the objectives of each learning experience on the Residency Learning System (RLS). Residents develop skills necessary for lifelong learning and self-assessment.
