Mercy Hospital and Medical Center PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency
CPS sponsors a PGY-2 ambulatory care residency at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in downtown Chicago. Residents will gain ambulatory care experience providing care in an array of pharmacy-managed clinics, multidisciplinary clinics, and community pharmacies.
Mercy Hospital and Medical Center
Mercy Hospital, Chicago’s first chartered hospital, has been serving the city for over 150 years. Located just south of Chicago’s Loop, Mercy is a 250-bed community teaching hospital with a rich history of providing both high quality medical care and excellence in medical education through its medical residency program. Mercy offers a complete range of inpatient and outpatient services.
The pharmacy department offers a broad scope of services and has a staff of over 40 practitioners. Clinical services provided include a pharmacokinetic dosing program, inpatient and outpatient warfarin dosing, and active roles in a number of inpatient and outpatient services and clinics.
Pharmacy students from a variety of colleges of pharmacy train at Mercy.
About the Program
The CPS/MHMC PGY-2 residency is a structured, post-graduate ambulatory training program that strives to develop proficient, professionally committed practitioners. Learning experiences are conducted in a variety of pharmacy-managed and multidisciplinary clinics with a maximum degree of flexibility and customizations to meet the resident’s needs and interests. The program also focuses on improving the resident’s abilities beyond general pharmacy practice, developing leadership skills that can be applied in the ambulatory practice setting.
In this program, the resident will actively participate in efforts to improve the scope and quality of ambulatory care pharmacy services and will evaluate the relevant outcomes of such initiatives.
As befits the teaching missions of the sponsoring organizations, the resident will become skilled as an educator of health professionals, students, and the public. Throughout the residency experience, the resident will acquire the skills necessary for lifelong learning and self-assessment
